So it seems like forever since I have truly done a proper blog. Spring is always a bit hectic for me. First there are track meets two a week usually, with at least one (sometimes two) being a home meet that I help officiate triple jump. The weekends I really try to spend time with the hubby because his work schedule is so hectic that we don't see much of him during the week. So I really try to do nothing but hang with him. That usually means a trip to the track on Sunday for a workout and some time out in the sunshine reading- he's usually in his hammock and I'm in a lounge chair nearby. Last week I worked on a landscaping project. We have landscaping bricks lining the drive and around the house. We have put river rock in the "flower beds" between the house/drive and bricks and every spring the bricks get shifted out of whack due to rain, freezing, kids and dogs. In previous springs I have spent hours realigning them but this year I was hoping that if I put in a little extra work, I could maybe keep them in place permanently.
So last week I spent most of the mornings burying rolls of black edging on the outside (grass side) of the landscape bricks hoping that this will keep them from shifting around so much. We had warmer than usual temperatures and on Monday I literally sweated off 3 pounds that morning (and I did drink water while working.) Tuesday I limited myself to one 50 foot roll since there was a track meet that night-- I didn't want to be crippled from overdoing it. Wednesday I finished up the last of it. I also purchased some new bricks to use as tree rings- the ones that are often used to do retaining walls. I loaded and unloaded over 30 of these on my own. DH rearranged them on Saturday while I was at track meet because I hadn't centered the trees right in the middle *rolls eyes* Friday I bought some flowers and potting soil and started some of my annual pots going. This year I found these really neat boxes that fit over a 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 deck railing. DH wasn't so thrilled about them when I was still planting them Friday when he got home from work but when I explained that I wouldn't be putting any flower pots on the actual deck or table he warmed up to them. I'll try to take photos to share with you. I picked up two geraniums in very nice pots at WalMart and transplanted them into my urns that are right next to my front door. I then potted some petunias in the pots seeing that they went with the urns. I figured it was cheaper to do these big planters than buy individual small geraniums to plant. Already they look full and lush in the bigger urns and make a nice accent. I still have to do the planters in the little "garden" that the utility boxes are in but the plant offerings were rather limited at this early stage. If there should be frost warning I can cover the ones that I have already planted.
While we are on the subject of outdoor stuff- Sully the beagle is a lizard fiend. We have these blue-tailed lizards and Sully has been a menace to them. DD moved a flower pot and there were a few of them under it and Sully caught one. Then one of my sons said that they saw a lizard that was missing it's tail- so he assumed Sully ate the tail. The other day I found a flower container that I hadn't planted yet in a weird spot- seems like Sully pushed it out of the way getting to lizards. Only explanation I can come up with seeing it wasn't windy or anything. Crazy dog. I often catch him digging and sniffing behind the bushes or right up next to the house.
Saturday I spent all of the morning and much of the afternoon at the track meet. Felt like I lost a day seeing we didn't get finished with that until almost 4 pm.
Monday and Tuesday of this week I worked on new curtains for DD's room. Previously I had made roman shades that went from bottom to top but when I had installed them, they were rather close the windows. During the winter we use humidifiers and the moisture was condensing on the cold windows and then causing mildew on the fabric that may be in contact w/ the window. Seeing that DD is now a young lady rather than a tween, I decided to make curtains. I got a slightly off white sheer fabric for the upper part because I wanted to allow a lot of light to get in, then I did about 6 inch stripes of the "acid" green color in some of her other bedding and trim, with an off-white fabric with textured diamond pattern sewn in at the bottom which would allow her privacy while still getting light through the upper sheer part. She really liked them too.
Today I caught up on a lot of housework that has gotten neglected during my landscaping/sewing stint. Tomorrow I have to run youngest son down to health department to get tetanus shot (apparently he needed one for 6th grade but they just notified me last week-- also said they didn't have his 6th grade physical which I know I turned in- I guess the secretary working there in the summer had put them in a different file and never bothered to put them in the student files.) I am glad I didn't have time to rush off to get the shot because DD's packet for the Governor's Scholar Program came today and they require her up to date immunization record-- so I will get that while there. Aside- ever notice how certain people don't/can't acknowledge you/yours accomplishments? An old neighbor of mine that is a FB "friend" and always describing everything in her/hers life as being some major accomplishment/fill in the superlative here has noticeably not commented on DD getting GSP. She bragged about her middle child being in Duke TIP program (which all of my kids have been eligible for but we realized that it isn't really anything other than 'bragging rights' so haven't bothered w/ it) and yet when my kid(s) accomplish something like getting into a program that gives her over $32k in tuition (or youngest getting second highest score of all time on state testing for his elementary school) not a peep. I guess it really sticks in my craw because this woman once bragged that her oldest was going to do fine in school because of her hubby. I asked "Oh, has he been working with her?" and she said "NO, he's just so smart." (I was mean enough to think in my head, "But you are so stupid that you might be bringing down that gene pool.") I mean, her hubby and my hubby worked in the same place- my hubby ended up being her hubby's boss' boss' boss. Not to mention that I may seem the twit at my age now but I was a straight A student and liked classes like Calculus and Physics. This woman couldn't even help her daughter out with remainders in math!! She also invited herself to my house and then proceeded to tell me how she "wouldn't WANT a house THIS BIG because she wouldn't want to have to clean it." And said of the house we had in her neighborhood "NObody buys a house THIS expensive here." (It's was $10 more than previous house and brand new and had a basement that she was eager to use in bad weather. I guess she just always rubbed me the wrong way and I did want her to acknowledge that maybe my kids are as smart/smarter than hers when she's always bragging about them and I rarely say anything unless it's major. Straight A report cards are not impressive in this family. LOL
The rest of the week will be hectic because Friday DD is running a special relay race in Louisville- I have to get her there- about 90 minutes from home. I have to pull youngest son out of school a little early because he doesn't get home until nearly 4 pm- so wouldn't get there in time. DH is planning to meet up with us there on his way home seeing he literally drives right past. Then DD has a full meet the next day at the same place-- she can ride a bus up that morning. Only 9 people are competing in the Friday races-- most of those are spending the night but DH seemed rather put off about spending another night in a hotel when he's only 90 minutes from home. I told him just I would stay w/ her but he wouldn't hear of that. He is such a caveman at times. Ironic since I'm on my own so much because of his work but I'm a delicate flower or something in another town rather than at home? In his family the women are in awe of my driving anywhere other than locally. What I get married and lose all power to drive or function as an autonomous person? Give me a break!
May will be less track meets but more other school stuff going on-- end of school year field trips and such. Plus DH and both boys have birthdays in May.
I'm still doing the Belly Fat Cure. It's really become a lifestyle change for me. I am slowly seeing my weight trend down. Last week during the landscape work- I was down to 2 1/2 pounds over goal. Hubby is really impressed because he's not used to me being so disciplined about eating. I've tried on shorts in smaller sizes but haven't purchased anything new because I find that the smaller size is still gaping at the waist but the legs are a bit tighter than I'd like. So I am hoping to get to point where my butt and thighs catch up to my waist. I am going to brag a little bit-- I always had a fairly nice rear because it's always been shapely- but since losing the weight with BFC. I am looking quite the curvy thing. I haven't lost bosom, my waist is smaller, my tummy is almost flat and my rear is even more heart-shaped. Makes me feel pretty good for my age. LOL

In one ear and out the other - that's for your neighbor. Maybe nobody wants to talk or listen to her and you seem to be an easy target coz she can see you outside your house. Just don't mind her. I know some people like that too and it is really irritating but I'd rather not waste time on that coz it just shows how affected I will become when that person is so not worth it.
Gosh, your face looks sooo thin now Dayna! You look amazing!

I'm so happy to hear that the new eating/exercise regime is working so well, your discipline is really admirable!

LOL. Confession: I haven't driven a car since I got married. I hate driving and, since college, I've only lived in cities that have good public transportation so I've avoided driving like the plague. Still, sometimes you gotta drive... and I figure that's why I got married. :-P
